China Study Tour 2019

Next we visited the city of Nanjing which is part of the wider Jiangsu Province. We visited a number of famous landmarks such as the Confucius temple which gave great views over the whole city. We also were lucky enough to see some of the great modern buildings in Nanjing such as the Nanjing International Youth Cultural Centre designed by world renowned architect Zaha Hadid. We also joined a number of Victorian Schools in a welcoming ceremony held by the Jiangsu Education Department. It was interesting to discover that although our sister school relationship with Zhongshan Road Elementary has only existed over the last 5 years, that Jiangsu Provence and The State of Victoria have had a Sister-state relationship for the last 40 years.

Our next destination was Zhengjiang where we would spend a number of days with our Sister School. For me this was the highlight of the trip. The staff, students and parents at Zhongshan Road Elementary went above and beyond to look after the students, April and myself. The hospitality they provided is something that I will never forget. The time spent in Zhongshan Road was really enlightening and informative. We were able to experience a number of classes such as Art, English and PE. Whilst there may be some differences between our education systems, the passion for learning and dedication of the staff is something that both our schools have in common!

The students then spent a weekend in a homestay with families from Zhongshan Road. To say the students were spoilt would be an understatement. They were not only provided with Western food such as pizza and burgers but taken to Amusement Parks, Art lessons and a range of other local activities. The level of hospitality provided for our students is something that our parents and students are extremely grateful for.
